Voted best place to dance by Anchorage Press readers in the Press Picks 2009, Platinum Jax is the in place to grab a bite and a cocktail. It’s the hottest place to show off your latest dance moves. Also funnest place to hang with your fellow sports junkies while you throw back some beers and cheer for your team playing on one of the 40 flat screen TVs.

Chilkoot Charlie’s

In it’s 30-year history, Chilkoot Charlie’s has truly become an Alaskan institution. For many, it is as much a part of Alaska as mountains and glaciers. Chilkoot Charlie’s is considered a “Rite of Passage” for Alaskans coming of age and a definite “must see” for visitors to Alaska… A must!

The Avenue Bar

This former dive bar has become the new hipster hot spot. They usually have decent music with a DJ on the weekends. The drinks are reasonably priced, just make sure to order something simple. It’s on the main downtown bar route and there always seems to be a random assortment of people.

Pioneer Bar

Good if you want a busy place to hang out on the weekends and sit with friends! Weekdays are mellow and relaxed. Cheapest drinks in downtown Anchorage. Go if you want a real drink and don’t want to wait all night to get it! Has darts, shuffleboard, jukebox, pool.

The Anchor Pub

At this upscale sports pub in Downtown Anchorage, it’s all about serving up good times. The
menu features fresh Alaskan seafood, sandwiches,
salads, burgers, wings and more.

Bernie’s Bungalow Lounge

Started out as a small house with a big bar attitude. It rapidly grew to a big house with a great attitude. The atmosphere is chill, the drinks are good and it’s just a great place to go and unwind. It is definitely a unique bar, come and you will see why. Bernie’s has a huge outdoor patio perfect for summer carousing. (One of Homer’s fav picks!)

Woodshed Lounge

Great place for dancing and karaoke. It also serves food and is a cool place to hang out.

Snow Goose Restaurant

The Goose was one of the first Brew Pubs in Anchorage. It has won numerous national and international awards for the finely craft ales. The dining room is sandwiched between an award winning brewery and the wonderful views to the north. The upstairs pub has two walls of windows extending the views. On a cold day, you can sit by a warm fireplace with a hot meal and a cool beer. The two outdoor decks adjacent to the pub offering mountain views, radiant sunsets, military aerobatics, and an active port.
